GOUVERNEUR — The Gouverneur Fire Company is urging local businesses and commercial property owners to consider installing Knox Boxes to give firefighters faster access to buildings during emergencies.
A Knox Box is a secure key box mounted on the exterior of a building that allows firefighters to quickly enter when a business is closed or no one is available to provide a key.
According to the fire company, Knox Boxes can help firefighters gain quicker access during fire alarms and other emergencies, avoid delays while waiting for a key holder, reduce unnecessary damage from forced entry and reach alarm, sprinkler, utility and mechanical areas more quickly.
When an alarm comes in during the overnight hours, having immediate access to a building can save valuable time and help protect property, the fire company said.
Businesses and commercial property owners interested in installing a Knox Box can contact the Gouverneur Fire Company at 315-287-1537 for more information.
