To the Editor:
As small business owners in St. Lawrence County we’ve lived by a few principles: hard work, dedication, consistency and commitment to lifelong learning. These principles have been the foundation of our business and we are proud to acknowledge that our St. Lawrence Legislator, Rita Curran, holds herself to those same standards.
Rita is the definition of community driven. She is constantly rolling up her sleeves and being a true “doer” in the community. This is not just seen in her role as legislator, but also as a nurse practitioner and psychiatric nurse. Rita serves on the EMS advisory board where she has worked hard to address the drug crisis in this area, as well as, the overall health disparity. In that same vein, Rita is a liaison to the Department of Health for the Task Force on Public Health and Mental Health.
Healthcare is not Rita’s only passion. She serves on the NYS Association of Counties Rural Agriculture and Farm because she knows that farmers are the backbone to any thriving community. As such, she has become a bee keeper in an effort to address the pollination problem and do her part to help our Farmers.
There are problem finders, and then there are problem solvers, Rita is the latter. If there is a need in our community, she tackles it head on. If her current skill set doesn’t allow her to address the need, she will soak up the knowledge and find the people who can. Our eldest jokes that if you want a friend in Washington, you need a dog, but for those of us in St. Lawrence County, our friend is Rita Curran.
Rita is the kind of person who hands your child cheese at the parade because it not only supports your child’s wellbeing but also supports the local economy. She is there at the rabies clinic to ensure your pets are taken care of. She’s not just some politician, she’s a nurse practitioner, a beekeeper, a daughter, a mother, and above all else, a friend to all of us in St. Lawrence County. It takes true grit to run a small business, but it also takes heart, and we have seen both qualities in Rita Curran. That’s why we are supporting Rita Curran in her reelection and believe you should as well.
