SUNY Potsdam art faculty member exhibits photography at London Design Festival

POTSDAM – SUNY Potsdam Associate Professor of Art Iggy Beerbower recently traveled to London to participate in an invitation-only exhibition as part of the London Design Festival. Her photograph, "Into the Waves," was a featured work in the exhibition, "Everything Then Is Now II - PLATFORM 0," shown in the Old Waiting Room in Peckham Rye Station.

Presented by SPIRA9 ART and the Casoria Contemporary Art Museum (CAM), the show is a site-responsive exhibition centered on ideas of memory, movement, transformation, interruption, return, and the histories that become embedded in places.

The chosen exhibition space, the Old Waiting Room at Peckham Rye Station, was literally a place of waiting and passage-a space where people arrived, departed, waited, interrupted their journeys, and moved through. Rather than simply using the building as a gallery, the exhibition treated the history and physical character of the space as part of the work.

Iggy Beerbower earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 2002 and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Hartford in 1993. She is currently an associate professor of photography at SUNY Potsdam. She has also taught at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, Anoka Ramsey Community College, Normandale Community College, and the Vermont Center for Photography. In addition to training with master photography printers, she has experience working as a custom printer for fine artists and as a darkroom technician for a variety of photographic labs. Her photographs have been exhibited at numerous galleries across the nation.
