CANTON — After a 6-month-long hiatus the Civil War Round Table series returns on Saturday, April 27, at noon in the meeting room of the St. Lawrence County Historical Association, 3 E. Main St.

This month's activity, sure to please Civil War buffs of all ages, is a "Civil War Show'n'Tell.”

Local residents and history fans are encouraged to bring your favorite artifact, relic, photo, letter, diary, weapon, or other item from the War Between the States, and share what significance it holds for you.

Over 5,500 men from St. Lawrence County served in the Union Army and Navy from 1861-1865 in a combined effort to preserve the Union, defeat the Confederacy, and help abolish slavery. Following the end of hostilities, many veterans brought home souvenirs from their time in service, and many of those items have been lovingly preserved by the descendants of those who fought.

The current rendition of the Civil War Round Table got its start with a well attended program on Super Bowl Sunday in 1996 at the Canton Free Library, and moved to the St. Lawrence County Historical Association shortly thereafter.
