CANTON — St. Lawrence County business leaders and employers are invited to explore local technical centers and workforce development programs during a weeklong series of informational sessions and student-led tours Nov. 9-13.

The St. Lawrence County Business Connections Committee, in partnership with St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES, is hosting the “Business Connections: Spotlight on BOCES Resources” initiative to give regional employers a firsthand look at training programs designed to prepare high school students and adult learners for in-demand careers.

Participants will tour technical training facilities, learn about available programs, hear from current students and see how BOCES resources help address local workforce needs.

The tours offer employers an opportunity to explore how hands-on training programs are preparing the next generation of workers with practical skills for careers in the region.

The schedule includes interactive tours and presentations at five St. Lawrence County locations:

  •   Monday, Nov. 9, 8:30-11 a.m.: Northwest Technical Center, 1000 Park St., Ogdensburg. Breakfast will be provided.
  •   Tuesday, Nov. 10, 8:30-11 a.m.: Seaway Area Technical Center, 7227 State Highway 56, Norwood. Breakfast will be provided.
  •   Thursday, Nov. 12, 9:45-11:30 a.m.: Agricultural Studies Academy, Canton. Lunch will be provided.
  •   Thursday, Nov. 12, 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m.: Adult Education and Workforce Development Center, Canton.
  •   Friday, Nov. 13, 8:30-11 a.m.: Southwest Technical Center, 360 State Highway 11, Gouverneur. Breakfast will be provided.

New to this year's program are dedicated tours highlighting the Agricultural Studies Academy and the Adult Education and Workforce Development Center in Canton.

The Agricultural Studies Academy provides specialized training for the region's agriculture, food and animal-related industries. The Adult Education center offers technical trade, health care and business training for adults seeking new career opportunities or additional skills.

Participants may register for individual sessions or attend the entire series. Advance registration is required and is available at tinyurl.com/BOCES-Connections.

The St. Lawrence County Business Connections Committee is a collaborative initiative involving representatives from the St. Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, St. Lawrence County Industrial Development Agency, New York Power Authority, North Country Small Business Development Center at SUNY Canton and Workforce Development Board.
