CANTON -- The Village of Canton board of trustees and mayor approved several personnel related issues recently, including approving training, salary changes, appointments and agreeing to search for a new part-time police dispatcher.
The Canton Village Police Department is looking for a part-time police dispatcher and the village board of trustees at their meeting Oct. 21 voted to open up a search for candidates for the position.
Also at the meeting the board discussed and approved hiring on its current part-time cleaner for the municipal building officially as a village employee.
"There are certain advantages to that," Village Mayor Mike Dalton said. "We would ultimately save money by doing it. I think she's worked out very well. I'm pleased. I think the office staff is pleased. And she can make a little bit more money anyways that way."
Village Clerk Megan Mousaw said currently the cleaner, who works 20 hours per week for the village through the CorTech employment service, is making $18.50 per hour and the village pays $27.75 for the service. The village will hire her on for $20 per hour at a cost savings for them and a pay boost for the employee.
At the Oct. 21 meeting, the village board approved travel expenses for Village Department of Public Works Superintendent Tim Bacon to the upcoming NYCOM Session, and travel to the Golf Course Superintendents Association of New York fall training on Dec. 8.
The board also approved a pay increase for village employee Owen McKenna from $20 per hour to $22 per hour.
New fire department members were approved by the board at the meeting as well.
Joseph Larmer and Matthew Gollinger were both approved to serve with the department.
