Successful Seniorama held at Ogdensburg airport venue

OGDENSBURG – The Ogdensburg International Airport is attracting interest as an events venue, according to Airport Events Coordinator Susie Davis.

Davis told the Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority board during its August meeting that no events were held at the airport in July, but she said interest in the facility continues to build as more organizations become aware of the available space.

She pointed to Seniorama as an example of the exposure the airport’s event space can generate. Vendors and attendees who had not previously been familiar with the facility responded positively to the venue, Davis said.

Board member Nicole Terminelli said the positive response to Seniorama was significant because the event had been held at the same location for six to eight years before moving to the airport.

Terminelli said County Legislator Larry Denesha had praised the airport venue and described the event as a success.

As passenger traffic continues to increase, Davis said she and Airport Manager Charlie Garrelts are developing additional safety policies and procedures for airport staff. The increase in flights and passengers has also brought more activity in the parking areas and increased pedestrian traffic, making safety a priority.

Davis said she has updated the airport’s taxi and transportation provider list for promotional flyers and is working to identify additional Canadian taxi companies that can provide service to the airport.

She said finding Canadian taxi providers has proved challenging because companies must carry specialized insurance to transport passengers across the border, she said.

Davis also provided an update on plans for a cafe at the airport. She said Grass River Grind had provided feedback after a previous communication mix-up was resolved. She said adding the necessary equipment would represent a significant expense that the authority will need to consider.
