Eligible St. Lawrence County residents are among millions of New Yorkers receiving energy rebate checks of up to $200 from the state, with Gov. Kathy Hochul announcing that 3 million checks have been delivered and another 5.2 million are expected to be sent in the coming weeks.
The checks are part of the state’s $1 billion Protecting Our Wallets Energy Rebate program, included in the 2026-27 state budget to provide financial relief to households facing rising costs.
The state began mailing the checks Sept. 21, and deliveries are expected to continue through December. About 8.2 million New Yorkers are eligible to receive a check.
The amount depends on income and filing status. Joint filers with incomes below $150,000 will receive $200, while joint filers earning between $150,000 and $300,000 will receive $150. Single filers with incomes below $150,000 will receive $100.
Eligible residents do not need to apply or register to receive the payment. The state Tax Department is mailing checks automatically.
Hochul said the rebates are part of a broader effort to help New Yorkers manage rising household expenses, including utility costs.
