Just as it seemed like Mother Nature was granting St. Lawrence County a reprieve from winter, forecasters at the National Weather Service are saying parts of St. Lawrence County could be covered by upwards of a foot of snow by Thursday morning.
The NWS prognosticates the storm to hit Gouverneur and Star Lake by 9 a.m. and to have pushed east to Massena and Potsdam by 10 a.m. The southern reaches of the county are projected to get the most snow, with Canton seeing a maximum possible total of 11 inches by Wednesday night and Star Lake potentially as high as 16 inches.
The temperature throughout the county is not expected to go above 26 degrees, all areas except Massena are forecasted by the NWS to experience wind chill values as low as 0 degrees.
Some snow is expected Thursday morning throughout the county, but all areas should see clear skies by Thursday night.
Snow fall forecasts for Wednesday are:
• Massena - 1 to 3 inches during the day, an additional 3 to 7 inches at night
• Potsdam - 2 to 4 inches during the day, another 4 to 8 inches at night
• Ogdensburg - 2 to 4 inches throughout the day, an extra 3 to 5 inches during the night
• Canton - 2 to 4 inches during the daylight hours, 3 to 7 inches at night
• Gouverneur - 3 to 5 inches throughout the day, 3 to 7 inches at night
• Star Lake - 3 to 7 inches during the day, 5 to 9 inches during the nighttime hours
