Republican James Hidy won the Massena mayor's race, William R. Small emerged victorious in a hard-fought contest for Ogdensburg City Court Judge, Christopher Curley received the nod for Canton Town Justice and Jesse Coburn and Mary Ann Ashley were elected Canton village trustees Tuesday.
Here are unofficial results of contested local races as reported by the St. Lawrence County Board of Elections. Absentee ballots are not included:
Canton
In the race for Town Justice, Democrat Chrisopher Curley won with 1,204 votes while Republican Thomas Wheeler received 986.
For an unexpired town council seat, Democrat James Smith won with 1,352 votes, compared to 953 for Republican Michael K Morgan.
Democrat Jesse Coburn, with 742 votes, and Republican Mary Ann Ashley, with 628 votes, won the election to two Canton Village Trustees posts. David Curry, a Republican, lost with 542 votes.
In the race for Canton Village Justice, Democrat Greg Storie won against Republican Carol Sheesley, 541-497.
Gouverneur
In Gouverneur, Republicans Charles W. Newvine, with 543 votes, and George G. Harder, with 460 votes, won two seats on the village board. Michael Bartholomew receivd 238 votes.
Hopkinton
In a three-way race for Hopkinton Town Justice, David Beekman came out ahead with 159 votes, while Stephen J. Bory recieved 75 and Joachim Joe Van Ells got 53.
Louisville
Gail Schneider was victorious in a race for an unexpired town councilman's seat, with 494 votes. Roy Beshaw recevied 483 votes.
Macomb
In Macomb, Greg Washburn, with 195 votes, and Steve Burke won two unexpired terms for town councilman. William Tulley came in third with 81 votes.
Massena
Republican James F. Hidy has won the race for mayor of the Village of Massena with 1,517 votes. Democrat Joseph Macaulay received 1,202.
Ogdensburg
Republican William R. Small has won the contest for City Court Judge with 1,357 votes, compared to Democrat Marica L. LeMay's 1,185. Independent Mary E. Rain, who recently threw her support to Small, received 120 votes and James L. Monroe got 93.
Pitcairn
In a three-way race for town supervisor in Pitcairn, Richard Cole Akinson won with 95 votes. Clyde Sam Frank Jr. came in second with 83 votes and Sadiee M. Deamer received 17.
Stockholm
In a close contest, Nancy Lynch eeked out a win for an unexpired town councilman's seat with 452 votes, compared to 445 for Kenneth W. Everhart.
Waddington
In a race for an unexpired town councilman's seat in Waddington, Robert J. Dalton came out ahead, with 458 votes. James S. Thew received 353.
