Massena, Heuvelton and Richville students were among winners of Sen. Patty Ritchie’s “Make Libraries Your Winter Break Destination” program.
The effort was designed to encourage children to visit their local libraries while away from the classroom, according to Richie, R-Heuvelton.
All program participants will be sent a special certificate and bookmark from Ritchie. The following St. Lawrence County students will receive a basket, filled with books and other educational materials: Madelyn Hirschey of Massena, Allie Herron of Heuvelton, Afton Riley of Richville and Jack Riley of Richville
All student submissions are available for viewing on Ritchie’s Facebook page.
“As the Senate Select Committee on Libraries Chair, it’s a priority for me not only to support our libraries, but also to encourage young people to use them,” Ritchie said in a news release. “I want to thank all of those who participated in this program, as well as the local libraries that strive each day to connect children with opportunities for enhancing their reading skills and expanding their imaginations.”
Ritchie’s 48th Senate District covers most of northern and western St. Lawrence County, including Ogdensburg, Canton and Gouverneur. It stretches into Jefferson and Oswego counties.
