OGDENSBURG -- Marnie J. Dancause, age 79, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at the Summit Village in Watertown where she received wonderful care.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and compassion that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Funeral services for Marnie will be held on Friday, October 23, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Fox & Murray Funeral Home, with Rev. Donna Fitchette officiating.
Burial will follow at Stone Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Born on June 24, 1947, in Ogdensburg, Marnie was the daughter of Robert and Margaret (Scott) McGregor.
Following her father's death during her teenage years, her mother later married Donald Hewey, who became an active and important part of her life.
For 33 years, Marnie co-owned and operated the family farm on McCormick Road in Morristown Center. The farm was much more than a place of work; it was a place where people found friendship, comfort, and a sense of belonging. Marnie cared deeply for the farmhands, her nephews, neighbors, and everyone who came through the door. She treated them all like family, always making room at her table for another person, another meal, or another conversation. Her kitchen was a place of warmth and fellowship, where a good meal was served with a generous helping of love, advice, and understanding.
Marnie's nurturing spirit extended well beyond the farm. She provided childcare for area families, sharing her patience, warmth, and caring nature with the children entrusted to her.
Later, she served as secretary of the United Oswegatchie Parish for 15 years before retiring. In every role she held, Marnie brought a genuine concern for others and a willingness to help wherever she was needed.
To know Marnie was to know someone who cared deeply. She had a gift for welcoming people into her life and making them feel as though they had always belonged there.
Whether offering a helping hand, a listening ear, a warm meal, or a bit of motherly advice, she gave freely of herself. Her kindness was not reserved for special occasions; it was woven into the everyday moments that made people feel loved. Many will remember her not only for what she did, but for how she made them feel: cared for, supported, and never alone.
Marnie was a member of the Galilee Methodist Church, Showtime, VFW and Gouverneur AmVets and an avid Elvis fan. She enjoyed boating, camping, making Christmas cookies, taking in the beautiful autumn leaves, attending music concerts, and, above all, spending precious time with her family. These simple pleasures brought her happiness, and the memories made along the way will be treasured by those who shared them with her.
Marnie's greatest legacy is the love she gave so generously. Though she may no longer be sitting at her table welcoming friends and family, the spirit of her kindness will continue in every life she touched, every lesson she shared, and every act of love inspired by her example. She leaves behind countless cherished memories and a lasting reminder that family is not defined only by blood, but also by the people we welcome, care for, and hold close to our hearts.
She is survived by her children, Renee (Tom) Nichols of Ogdensburg and Raymond (Tammie) Dancause of Arizona; her stepchildren, Anthony Dancause, Cynthia (Doug) Brophy, and Kathleen Marks, all of Canada; her grandchildren, Brian (Caitlyn) Nichols of New Castle, Indiana, Sarah (Daniel) Pharon Jr. of St. Regis Falls, Dustin Kelley and his companion, Crystal Christman, of Fowler, and Kris Kelley of Georgia; several additional grandchildren residing in British Columbia Canada; many great-grandchildren; and her brother, Lynn McGregor of St. Regis Falls; along with many nephews & cousins.
Marnie was predeceased by her husband Raymond Dancause Sr.; her parents, her son-in-law, Eugene Marks, and her brother, Matthew McGregor.
