MADRID — Ashley Chevier of Madrid-Waddington Central School was recognized with this year’s Johanna Mansfield Sullivan Inclusion Award for her advocacy on behalf of students.
The award, presented by the Northern Regional Center for Independent Living (NRCIL), recognizes individuals who work to remove barriers and promote inclusion.
Chevier also received a certificate of special recognition from state Sen. Mark Walczyk, R-Watertown, of the 49th Senate District.
According to the school, Chevier consistently works to remove barriers for her students and ensure they have equal opportunities to participate in school activities, including field trips.
She also has declined to participate in activities that are not fully inclusive.
The school said Chevier’s passion and commitment help ensure her students feel valued, included and supported.
The Johanna Mansfield Sullivan Inclusion Award is part of NRCIL’s efforts to recognize “barrier busters” who advocate for people with disabilities and promote accessibility and inclusion.
