League of Women Voters: Make a plan to vote

The League of Women Voters (LWV) reminds voters that Midterm Election Day is November 3 and all polling places will be open that day from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The last day to register to vote in the Midterms is October 24. You can register, check your registration and find other voting information online via the League of Women Voters’ www.Vote411.org or https://voterlookup.elections.ny.gov . You can also register in person at the Board of Elections. Procrastinators can even register in person on October 24 at an Early Voting location.

To request a vote by mail ballot, go to https://elections.ny.gov/request-ballot, call the SLC BOE at 315-379-2202, or download and mail-in an application. But don’t delay: your absentee or vote by mail application must be received by October 24 if you mail it in, by November 2 if you apply in person at the BOE.

Since your completed vote by mail ballot must be postmarked no later than November 3, and be received by the BOE no later than November 10, the League suggests that you, a friend or relative, turn it in person at the BOE, at an Early Voting site or any regular poll site on November 3.

You can Vote Early in person October 24-November 1 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. On October 26 and 28 the polling sites will remain open until 8 p.m.

SLC has two Early Voting locations: Potsdam Central School Annex, 68 Lawrence Ave Potsdam, NY (please note the new location) and 100 Riverside Ave, Ogdensburg, NY 13669 (the Dobisky Center).

If you cast a ballot during the Early Voting period you cannot cast a ballot on Election Day. If you requested an absentee or Early Vote by Mail ballot, but didn’t return it, on Election Day you will have to vote by affidavit ballot at your polling place rather than on the machine.

On October 24, LWV SLC will be joining with Indivisible SLC and North Country Neighbors for Civic Engagement to Celebrate the Right to Vote. Please join us, 8 to 11 a.m. for the nonpartisan festivities in Ives Park in Potsdam.

After you cast your ballot, be sure to wear your “I Voted” sticker with pride. Thanks to the Price Chopper’s Golub Foundation, Stewart’s Shops, and members and friends of the St. Lawrence County LWV for their generous donations to cover the cost of the stickers.
