Troopers responded to the scene at 6:50 p.m. and determined that a red 2017 Jeep driven by Kristen L. Rozelle, 50, Norwood, was traveling southwest when the animal entered the roadway.
Rozelle was unable to avoid the collision and struck the water buffalo head-on, police said.
Rozelle and her passenger, Lindsey Baker, 27, Potsdam, were taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital for evaluation. Neither was reportedly injured.
