To the Editor:
My name is Ginger Storey-Welch, and I am running for the County Legislature in District 7. If you live within the Towns of Colton, Parishville, Piercefield, Pierrepont, or Hopkinton, I would be honored to receive your vote.
I have demonstrated that I work hard, having reached out to over 2300 of your homes to hear your concerns and having attended County Legislature, town board and other meetings as well as numerous community events. All of this has helped me to understand issues facing the county. I have heard pros and cons about a countywide EMS system, and about the need for support for families with autistic or mentally ill children and moms with postpartum depression and more. I have heard a Neighborhood Center director’s dream of a mobile neighborhood center for the county’s neediest parts, and I am wondering about a grant for that. Knowing recreation is important to the region, I have attended two meetings on ATVs/UTVs to learn about the trail system. I have attended a Farm Bureau meeting and have listened to farmers’ concerns and spoken with District 7 business owners. County department heads have shared their agencies’ work and the challenges they face. The Wild Center’s “When Water Rises” conference taught me ways to meet infrastructure needs for events like the 2024 floods.
I am honored to have received two teachers’ union endorsements and the AFL-CIO Central Trades union endorsement. I attended two 1199 SEIU rallies in support of Claxton-Hepburn Hospital and the public hearing on the potential closure of their labor and delivery unit, which would leave only one such unit for our entire county.
What I will always remember are the conversations I had with you on your porch or yard or in your living room or garage or at your kitchen table. Thank you for sharing with me your stories, hopes, values, and concerns. That has been an honor.
If I am elected, you can count on me to care and to work just as hard as a legislator as I have as a candidate. Please make your voice heard by voting either during Early Voting (10/24-11/1) or on Election Day, Nov. 3. Thank you.
Ginger Storey-Welch
Candidate for St. Lawrence County
Legislature, District 7
