HAMMOND — A Hammond man was charged with drug possession following a welfare check Tuesday morning, according to state police.
Robert E. Penrose, 59, was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest on Split Rock Road, police said.
Troopers responded to his home shortly before noon and while speaking to Penrose he was allegedly in possession of drug paraphernalia, late identified as methamphetamine.
Penrose was escorted out to the patrol car when he started resisting arrest and attempting to get away from troopers, police said..
He was released on appearance tickets returnable to Town of Hammond Court at a later date, police, officers said.
