GOUVERNEUR – A Gouverneur man was charged for allegedly shooting a cat in the Town Fowler.

On Oct. 30, New York State Police arrested Cody L. Fuller, 35, for aggravated cruelty to animals, menacing in the second degree, reckless endangerment in the second degree, petit larceny, endangering the welfare of a child, illegal discharge of a firearm, and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree (previous conviction).

On Oct. 29,  at approximately 6:26 p.m., state police responded to County Route 22 in the town of Fowler for a reported animal cruelty complaint.

An investigation determined Fuller went to the victim’s residence looking for a cat that he claimed had attacked him. The victim advised Fuller there were no cats at the residence matching his description. Fuller continued to drive past the residence before stopping his vehicle in front of the property.

Fuller then stood in the door frame of his truck and pointed a rifle in the direction of the victim and one of the victim’s cats. Fuller fired one round, striking the cat, which was in close proximity to the victim and residence. Fuller then entered the property, took the cat, and fled the scene.

New York State Police conducted a search for Fuller, who was later located at Jefferson Community College. He was arrested and transported to SP Gouverneur for processing.

Fuller was arraigned in the Town of Fowler Court, where he was released on his own recognizance.
