CANTON -- Multiple seats are up for grabs in the St. Lawrence County legislature, with eight contested races currently playing out.
In District 3, Republican incumbent Joseph Lightfoot is down 103 votes, with Democrat Adam Jarret currently leading 505 to 423.
In District 5, a three-way race is playing out as Republican Troy Besaw jumps out to an early lead over Democrat Daniel Horton and incumbent Harry Smithers who is running on the Common Sense party line.
Besaw currently leads with 91 votes to Horton's 87 and Smithers' 8.

Smithers lost his primary battle to Besaw in June.
In District 7, Democrat Ginger Storey-Welch is out to a strong lead over incumbent Republican Rick Perkins, leading with 508 votes to Perkins' 250.
District 8 sees Republican Allan Robinson neck and neck with Democrat Paula Sturge as Sturge leads 1,123 to 1,107 with three of five precincts reporting.
Robinson was appointed to the legislature in May to replace Republican Ben Hull who resigned his seat to join the Air Force.
The battle for District 11 sees Republican incumbent Glenn Webster down to Democrat Amber Spinner, with Spinner currently leading 620 to 217.
In District 12, Democrat Pat Brady is leading Republican Marty Blair 360 to 165.
Both are seeking a seat currently occupied by Republican John Burke who opted to not seek reelection earlier this year.
In District 13 Republican Terry Goodrich is currently down to Democrat Setcher Krywanczyk by a narrow margin, with Krywanczyk leading 154 to 143.
Goodrich was recently appointed to the board following the resignation of Republican John Gennett, who took a job out of state. Gennett remains in the district and will travel for work.
Republican incumbent Rita Curran is currently trailing in District 15 against Democrat John Michno, with Michno leading 309 to 170.
All results are unofficial and include early voting, as well as write-in ballots received as of yesterday.
