Edith A. Sherman, 92, Norfolk

NORFOLK -- Edith A. Sherman, 92, of County Route 38, peacefully passed away surrounded by her family early Saturday morning, March 9, 2024, at Canton-Potsdam Hospital after a brief illness.

Edith was born December 24, 1931, in Ogdensburg, the daughter of the late Chester and Ida (Bylow) LaBaff. She attended rural schools in Norfolk.

On October 13, 1949, she married Edward W. Sherman at the First United Methodist Church in Massena. Ed predeceased her on April 28, 2014.

Edith was a devoted wife and mother who proudly raised her 9 children. Her love for her family was first and foremost in her life and proudly maintained her home.

She was a communicant of the Church of the Sacred Heart.

Edith is survived by her children and their spouses, Janet and Paul Giametta of Norfolk, Randy Sherman of Mechanic Falls, Maine, Orpha and Charles LaPrade of North Lawrence, Sammy and Lorraine Sherman of Nalcrest, Florida, Kerry Sherman of Winthrop, Maine, Edith Sandaker of Brasher Falls, Christopher and Roberta Sherman of Norwood, and Amy Hope and Brian Smith of Johnstown, Pennsylvania; her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Sherman of Newport News, Virginia; 21 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren; her sister, Debbie and Tim MacEwen of West Potsdam; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by two sons, Craig John at birth and Danny J. Sherman on January 22, 1998; her sisters, Darlene Richey, Lida Randall, Ida McCann; and her brother, Chester LaBaff, Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 12th at 10:00 AM at the Church of the Sacred Heart. There will be no calling hours.

Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Parishville.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may consider memorial contributions to be made in her memory to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
