Turtle Rescue program in Potsdam
POTSDAM – The North Country Children's Museum will host Dancing Turtle Rescue for a live animal program, Totally Terrific Turtles on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 11 a.m. to noon. Museum visitors will meet turtle ambassadors, learn turtle facts, and have the chance to pet a rescue reptile.
Dancing Turtle Rescue and Education Program is a nonprofit based in Schroon Lake, dedicated to saving native freshwater turtles and their wetland habitats. Founded by Debbie Philp, a licensed wildlife rehabilitator and certified master herpetologist, the organization rehabilitates injured turtles and returns them to the wild, and also provides care for neglected and abandoned pet turtles.
Its education programs introduce the public to turtles and explain why so many species are threatened, including habitat loss, road mortality, and pollution.
Turtles that cannot be released serve as education ambassadors, and some of them will be visiting Potsdam.
