CANTON — Cornell Cooperative Extension of St. Lawrence County has appointed Nate Kennedy as its new executive director.

A North Country native, Kennedy is originally from Ogdensburg and lives in Potsdam with his wife, Jessica, and their son, Sawyer.

Kennedy holds a Master of Professional Studies degree in environmental communication from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry. He began his career with Cornell Cooperative Extension in Seneca County, where he worked as a 4-H youth development educator.

“I fell in love with Extension a long time ago and always hoped I might return. I have a tremendous amount of admiration for the CCE mission, program areas and volunteers, and I’m eager to lead and support the wonderful staff and community here in my home county,” Kennedy said.

For the past five years, Kennedy has worked in wildlife conservation for the Ruffed Grouse Society and American Woodcock Society. In that role, he led a large team of volunteers across seven states, raised funds and awareness, and worked with diverse communities of supporters, partners and stakeholders.

His areas of expertise include writing, community building, hunting and wildlife, advocacy and fund development.

Kennedy said he is looking forward to joining the organization and supporting its mission.

“I’m grateful to the Board and staff for such a warm welcome. Patrick and the team have a lot to be proud of, and I’m thankful for the opportunity to help carry that torch into the future. Congratulations to Patrick on his retirement and a job very well done,” Kennedy said.

Kennedy will begin his new role Monday, Dec. 14. He can be reached through the Cornell Cooperative Extension of St. Lawrence County office at 315-379-9192.
