OGDENSBURG – James LaFave will keep his seat on city council after besting write-in opponent Shannon Furgison-Thornhill.
In a letter to North Country This Week LaFave thanked Ogdensburg residents for their support after being elected to continue serving on the Ogdensburg City Council.
LaFave said he was “truly humbled, honored, and deeply grateful” for the trust and confidence residents placed in him.
He thanked all voters and said he was committed to representing every resident, regardless of whether they supported his candidacy.
“I want everyone to know that I am committed to representing all residents of our great city, not just those who supported my candidacy,” LaFave said.
LaFav offered appreciation to his family, friends and supporters for their encouragement throughout the campaign as well as residents who took the time to vote and participate in the election.
He also offered respect to his opponentShannon Ferguson-Thornhill, who ran as a write-in candidate for City Council.
“Running for public office requires commitment, courage, and a genuine desire to make a positive difference in our community,” LaFave said. “I sincerely respect her willingness to participate in the democratic process, and I thank her for her interest in serving our community,” LaFave said.
LaFave said his priorities include responsible government, fiscal accountability, maintaining essential city services, encouraging economic development and making decisions that serve residents and taxpayers.
LaFave said he would continue to be accessible, transparent and accountable to residents. He said he would listen to different opinions and make decisions based on what he believed was best for the city.
LaFave said his campaign commitment remains, “Committed to the Community. Accountable to the People. Focused on Ogdensburg’s Success.”
LaFave said he looked forward to working with fellow City Council members, city administration, employees, businesses and residents to build a stronger Ogdensburg.
“Once again, thank you to my family, my friends, my supporters, and most importantly, the citizens of Ogdensburg for giving me the opportunity to continue serving you,” LaFave said.
