Canton police reach out to homeowners to help locate missing male

CANTON – Canton police are asking the public to search their property and surveillance cameras for any information that may help police find an individual last seen in the Village of Canton on Wednesday night, Jan. 10.

The Canton Police Department is asking the public for assistance Abiu Velasquez, 24, was last seen Wednesday evening at approximately 9:30 pm in the Village. 

Police said Velasquez is not wanted in connection with any criminal matter, he is simply missing and he might be in danger due to the recent snow and cold temperatures.

Velasquez was believed to last be seen on several surveillance cameras walking on Riverside Drive and he may have continued walking out of the village onto County Route 27 towards Morley.

Law enforcement, including the Canton Police Department, The St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Department, the NYS DEC, the NYS State Forest Rangers, the New York State Police, the St. Lawrence County Probation Department, Canton Fire Department and the Parishville Fire Department have been and continue to check the riverbanks, fields, wooded areas, back yards, etc., as well as going door to door at various village and town of Canton residences.

He was last seen wearing a brown coat/hoodie, a gray T-shirt and blue jeans. He is 5'7" tall and weighs 150 lbs.

Police are asking the public to check their own property, including outbuildings, under porches and decks and especially personally owned surveillance cameras for anything that might be helpful.
