MASSENA -- The third and final application period for the Core of the Community Fund is now open.
Village officials say the application period opened May 20 and will potentially provide grants from $5,000 to $100,000 to businesses to invigorate Massena's downtown district.
"This round includes some exciting changes to the program. The maximum award for building renovation projects has been increased to $100,000 and the property or business owner’s match requirement has been reduced to just 25%, meaning grant funding can cover up to 75% of the total project cost," officials say.
Officials say the fund is a testament "to the Village's continuous commitment to economic development and architectural heritage."
Grant funds can be used for large interior or exterior rehabilitation projects, small projects such as business signage and awnings, or business equipment.
Previous funding was awarded for the restoration of the marquee and various enhancements at the Schine Theater, new signage and a kitchen expansion at the Gristmill Brewery as well as equipment purchases for a new coffee shop, opening soon.
Applications will be accepted through July 15.
Interested business owners, property owners, and entrepreneurs are encouraged to apply by visiting the Village of Massena’s website.

"The Village of Massena is eager to see the positive developments these grants will facilitate and strongly encourages eligible parties to apply. Through collaborative efforts, we look forward to enhancing the charm and functionality of Massena’s downtown," officials say.
