CANTON — Fire prevention activities are underway throughout Canton this week, with local firefighters visiting schools, housing communities and college campuses to promote fire safety, according to firefighter Dan Aldous.
On Monday, fire dog Jax made community visits to distribute fire safety information at the Canton Housing Authority high-rises and Law Lane, Aldous said.
Fire safety information also was distributed to the St. Lawrence University and SUNY Canton communities, including information focused on dormitory fire safety.
On Tuesday, firefighters reportedly visited the Canton Banford School for assemblies where students learned about the three P's of fire safety: planning, practice and prevention.
Students also had the opportunity to see a firefighter dressed in full turnout gear and hear the sounds of firefighters breathing through the air packs they wear on their backs.
Fire prevention activities will continue throughout the week in the community, Aldous said.
