Brasher Falls woman charged with drunk driving after UTV accident

BRASHER FALLS – A Brasher Falls woman was arrested for drunk driving after a UTV accident on County Route 53 on Oct. 1.

Troopers arrested Valarie L. McGrath, 42, for driving while intoxicated and obstructing government administration 2nd.

Troopers responded to a UTV accident on County Route 53 in the town of Brasher on Oct. 1 at 12:21 a.m. State police arrived on scene and observed a 2019 General 1000 UTV on the west shoulder of the roadway.

Troopers interviewed the driver, who was identified as McGrath.

McGrath stated she swerved to miss a deer leaving the roadway striking a tree on the west shoulder. McGrath did not sustain any injuries from the crash.

During the interview, McGrath was showing signs of impairment, troopers said. Troopers administered SFST’s which she failed.

She was arrested and transported to SP Winthrop where she refused to submit to a breath test and refused to provide fingerprints and photograph.

She was released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Brasher Court for the driving while intoxicated and issued an appearance ticket to the Town of Stockholm for the obstructing government administration 2nd.
