A Binghamton woman and a passenger in her vehicle were both charged with drug-related charges following a traffic stop in the Town of Louisville on Sept. 15.

New York State Police reported that Melissa A. Laffin, 40, of Binghamton, was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of controlled substance, criminal possession of controlled substance in a non-original container, and third-degree unlicensed operation following a traffic stop at 3:53 a.m.

A passenger, Elizabeth A. Briggs, 32, Canton, was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

According to police, troopers observed a black sedan traveling on County Route 40. While speaking with both occupants of the vehicle. Laffin stated she was the driver of the vehicle and Briggs was the passenger. During the interview, in plain sight troopers observed two glass smoking devices. Laffin was in possession of a small amount of cocaine. Troopers searched the vehicle and located pills, which were identified as buprenorphine/naloxone, and crack cocaine.

Briggs and Laffin were arrested and transported to SP Massena for processing. They were issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Louisville Court for a later date in October, said police.
