SOUTH COLTON - Betty J. Hutchins, 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 27, 2026 at her home with family at her side. Betty is survived by her husband of 54 years, Ernest E. Hutchins; her son Jason Hutchins (Cari), of the Hudson Valley; her brother, Harold Morrow, sister-in-laws Alice, of Canton and Phyllis, of Ontario, and brother-in-law Charles Walker, of North Carolina.
She was stepmother to Ernest's children Jonathan Hutchins (Debbie), Tupper Lake; Edward Hutchins (Darlene), Malone; Susan Hutchins (Charlie), Peru, NY; her beloved six grandchildren, Henry, Ruby, Curtis, Courtney, Beth Ann and Emily; and six great-grandchildren. Betty was predeceased by parents William and Myrtle Morrow; brothers, George, Lloyd, Gordon and Raymond; and sister, Hellen McConnell.
Born in Winchester, Ontario, Canada on a Dairy Farm, Betty graduated from Winchester High School. Along with her childhood best friends; Beth Short, Nancy Dean, and Arlene Nesbitt, they all became teachers. She married Ernest on March 22, 1972. Betty taught 2nd grade for many years in Cornwall, Ontario and after retirement, moved to the Adirondacks. Betty enjoyed the outdoors and caught the largest Walleye that ever existed in the Stark Reservoir. Betty was an active community volunteer and along with Ernest, remained connected to service initiatives locally and with North American indigenous communities.
Betty was loved by many and will be remembered. By family request, donations may be made in memory of Betty J.
