NORWOOD — In September of 2020, The Community Lunch Program For Kids was given a $20,000 Humanitarian Grant from The Alcoa Foundation to assist families and individuals in the Norwood Norfolk Raymondville area that had been negatively impacted by the Covid 19 Pandemic.

The Community Lunch Program For Kids is located in Norfolk, and is not affiliated with Norwood Norfolk Raymondville Outreach, nor do they receive funding from them.

According to recently completed report from the program, the grant money was spent in the following way:

• A 3 night stay at a local motel for a homeless family with three small children

• Wood for heat in March for a family with 6 children

• Propane for a family in February for a single dad and 6 children

• Refrigerator for a family of four when their refrigerator stopped working in August and they could not afford to purchase another one

• Butterball Turkey coupons so 415 families could enjoy a special meal at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter

• PPE (instrument covers) for for students in the NNCS band, so they could continue to practice and play together despite the pandemic

• Clothing for five children in a family who moved into the NNCS district and had no clothing for school

• 149 winter coats

• 132 long sleeve Flyer t shirts for NNCS students who couldn’t afford to purchase them

• 83 jugs of laundry detergent

• 122 pairs of pajamas for local children

• 23 pairs of sneakers

• 6 pairs of winter boots

• 6 pairs of snow pants

• Hygiene supplies including lice shampoo, feminine hygiene products, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, deodorant, tissues, paper towels, TP, and dish detergent.

• Food, including food for “Christmas baskets” (ie cocoa, candy canes, cracker jacks, cookies and crackers)

CLPK partnered with local organizations, food pantries, churches and the counselors of Norwood Norfolk Central School to identify local families and individuals in need to distribute the monies in a fair and equitable manner, program organizers said.
