NORWOOD – Evan Converse, a student at the Seaway Career & Technical Education Center and Massena Central School, has been named Potsdam Rotary Club Student of the Month for December. He is a student in the Natural Resource Management Program and the son of Jason and Amanda Converse.

Natural Resource Management is a two-year program based on the sustainable use of natural resources. Subject areas that are covered include silvicultural practices, conservation, tree identification, wood products, forest mensuration, chainsaw safety and use, equipment operation, plantation practices, agriculture, sugar bush management, wildlife and forest management, integrated pest management, vegetable production, fruit production, animal science and crop science. These subjects are taught in the classroom with a large portion of hands on in the shop and outside along with learning about shop and field safety. There are dual enrollment opportunities in the program as well.

The instructor, John Morgan, has said the following about his student: “Evan hit the ground running as a junior. He has beyond entry-level skills and will be able to do anything that he desires. He is a student leader and a member of the National Technical Honor Society. He has his own side business and will possibly be going to Lineman School in Georgia. He is a wonderful young man and will be very successful in his future endeavors.”

Program Students of the Month are Alexis James, auto technology, and Camden Hazen, HVAC/R, both students at Parishville-Hopkinton Central School; Brianna LaBar, Education & Human Services, Willow Jones, Health Careers, Kylie Tebo, New Visions Medical Careers, and Corbin Gardner, Software Development & Business Design, all students at Norwood-Norfolk Central School.
