The St. Lawrence University men's tennis team suffered a 9-0 setback on Saturday, losing to the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY. The Yellowjackets, ranked #17 in the Northeast, improve to 13-6 on the season. The Saints fall to 9-5 overall and will take on Hobart tomorrow afternoon in Geneva, NY.
Rochester took all three doubles matches, but the Saints battled close at first and third. Michael Hayden and Paul Barrett lost a tough 9-7 decision to Boris Borocanin and Julian Danko at one, while UR's Ian Baranowski and Joel Allen prevailed at three over Thomas Luchars and Rhonny Rosario by the score of 8-6. Ben Shapiro and Matt Levine beat SLU's John Megas and Rob Schmitz at two, 8-2.
St. Lawrence's closest singles match was played by Hayden, who nearly knocked off Borovacanin at one, but was edged 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (8). At two, Megas fell to Levine, 6-2, 6-1, and Rosario lost to Danko at three, 6-0, 6-3.
Barrett fell to Shapiro at four, 6-0, 6-0, Burke lost to Baranowski at five, 6-4, 6-2, and Shortz fell to Allen at six, 6-1, 6-3.
