OGDENSBURG -- Anglers and boaters from Morristown to Massena are asked to volunteer their time and their boats to help give heroes from Fort Drum a great day of bass fishing.
FISHCAP’s second annual Wounded Warriors Tournament is set for Saturday, June 23 on the St. Lawrence River, and they are lining volunteers to be on the water and on land.
“Last year’s event was fantastic for everyone,” said organizer and FISHCAP board member “Air Force” Bob Giordano, “in great part due to the overwhelming support we had from local veterans and anglers. This year, we’re hoping for that support again.”
Giordano said FISHCAP needs 15-foot or longer boats that can accommodate at least two Wounded Warrior anglers, and have all safety equipment, rods, reels and tackle for the visitors. Each boat owner will receive a $50 gas coupon.
Volunteers are needed on land, as well, at the tournament base in Ogdensburg. FISHCAP is hoping to bring up to 30 Wounded Warriors and their families to St. Lawrence County for the day, and will be providing food, prizes, and special activities for spouses and children.
Boats will be launched from the Ogdensburg Marina at 7:30 a.m. on the 23rd, and return at 3:30 p.m. Weigh-in will be at 4 p.m.
Those who want to volunteer their boats for the day, or their time, can contact Giordano at 600-7533 or barrongd@aol.com.
FISHCAP is the St. Lawrence County based initiative designed to promote the St. Lawrence River Valley as the fishing capital of the world.
FISHCAP’s first event was the Wounded Warrior Tournament held last June.
