CANTON -- Several departments at the St. Lawrence County Courthouse, 48 Court St., were disrupted at about 11 a.m. Thursday by a water service line break.
This impacted a number of county departments and the New York State courts with offices in the 1993 section of the Courthouse.
An immediate response by county staff from Buildings and Grounds and the Highway Department, with help from the Village of Canton provided a determination of the scope and severity of the issue, according to an announcement from County Administrator Ruth Doyle.
Staff from the county and the village worked diligently into the evening to repair the line, she said.
The line that was damaged, which is 65 to 70 years old, was repaired earlier today.
Work is continuing on the affected areas of the building. The steps necessary to have the building ready to be reoccupied after the weekend are underway.
The impacted departments include Probation, Human Resources, Purchasing, Information Technology, Real Property and the District Attorney’s Office. Their personnel were released at noon today, and those offices are closed.
“The County would like to acknowledge the assistance received from the Village of Canton and from Duck Brown Construction in addressing this in a swift manner,” Doyle said.
