Emily Wade's goal in the 65th minute was the lone goal in the St. Lawrence women's soccer team's 1-0 win at Worchester Polytechnic Institute on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Saints improve to 3-0 on the year, while the Engineers fall to 4-1.

"WPI came at us with a lot of desire and I was really impressed with how they challenged our team defense," Head Coach Franco Bari said. "We kept our composure defensively and generated very good things in the attack."

After a scoreless first half in which the Saints outshot WPI 7-4, the visitors had just one shot attempt that was blocked before Wade found the back of the net with the game winner.

Junior Kaleigh White recorded her team-leading third assist of the year when she crossed the ball into the box for Wade who volleyed a shot behind goalkeeper Gabi Hoops.

Hoops made three saves for the Engineers, while St. Lawrence goalkeeper Samantha Allen needed just one save for the shutout.

St. Lawrence finished with an 11-7 advantage in shots and 4-1 edge in shots on goal. The Saints took six corners, three in each half, while only conceding three to WPI in the first 45 minutes.

"Overall, it was an impressive performance," Bari added. "It's never easy traveling and while this result was well-earned, our focus now is sustaining a high tempo for tomorrow. I want to thank the numerous alumnae, their parents and the current team's parents, family and friends for their support."

The Saints travel to Roger Williams for an 11 a.m. match on Sunday morning.
