MaxwellLOUISVILLE – Two St. Lawrence County men were jailed Tuesday for falsely reporting an armed robbery the same night at Steve’s Stop and Shop, 14169 St. Hwy. 37, according to Massena-based state police.

Troopers say they charged Taylor D. Maxwell, 19, Lousiville with sixth-degree conspiracy, falsely reporting an incident and making a false statement.

Kristopher G. Brothers, 20, Massena, was charged for sixth-degree conspiracy and petit larceny, police said.

The charges reportedly stem from an investigation conducted by state police into a reported armed robbery at approximately 8:20 p.m.

Troopers said their investigation revealed Maxwell and Brothers staged a fake robbery in order to steal approximately $950 in cash from the register.

Maxwell, an employee at Steve’s Stop and Shop, allegedly handed the money to Brothers who left the store.

To cover up the theft, Maxwell contacted 911 and said he had been robbed by a man brandishing a handgun, police said.

After several interviews troopers determined Maxwell, with the assistance of Brothers, orchestrated the events.Brothers

Both were arraigned in the Town of Louisville Court.

Maxwell was remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility on $1500 bail and Brothers was jailed on $1,000 bail, officers said.

They are both scheduled to reappear in the Louisville Town Court on March 12 at 5:30 p.m., troopers said.

The New York State Police said they were assisted in the investigation by the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department and United States Border Patrol.
