St. Lawrence County Emergency Services is advising motorists to stay off the roads south of Canton along US 11 and State Rts. 58 and 3 due the heavy snow.
Road conditions in this area of the county are snow covered with visibility at times of less than 1/8 of a mile, ES says in a statement this morning.
They say significant snow accumulations along with white-out and high winds conditions are making travel dangerous along the roads in the southern portions of the county.
The statements says that county and municipal highway departments are working to clear roads.
“At this time it is suggested that no travel other than for emergency purposes should occur in areas affected,” the statement says.
They say they will be monitoring conditions and will issue additional advisories “should conditions change that would require additional measures to be put into place.”
