COLTON -- The Town of Colton will host a public hearing April 12 at 7 p.m. to discuss proposed zoning law revisions.

The town of Colton’s proposed zoning revisions are available for public review and comment at the Town Hall, and at the Public Library. The Colton town board will hold a public hearing on the draft text before its regular meeting on Wednesday, April 12 at 7 p.m.

“A local committee of the planning board, zoning board, the code enforcement officer, business owners and residents have been working on this since 2009,” Colton town supervisor Dennis Bulger said.

The document was reviewed page by page, explained supervisor Bulger, and was updated and revised to be consistent with applicable state laws.

“The Adirondack Park Agency reviewed and approved the revisions at its March meeting, and the Town Board issued a Negative Declaration under SEQR. We’re now at the last milestone before the Town can repeal and replace the current code,” he said.

The town contracted with the county planning office to help finalize its zoning regulations. Matilda M. Larson, a Planner II at the Office, said the revisions include definitions for standard and conditional uses, creating terms and references to be consistent with Adirondack Park regulations, and updates to planning board and zoning board procedures that are consistent with town law, the State Environmental Quality Review Act, and the State Mined Lands Reclamation Act,” Larson said.

“The revisions are available in digital format at the town hall and at the Library, but for those who can’t travel to either location to view the documents, they can be emailed by our office.”

“The town wants to give people enough time to review the zoning revisions before the April 12 public hearing,” said Larson.

Larson says people who are unable to attend the public hearing can email written comments to the Planning Office no later than April 12. “Once the public hearing is finished,” Larson said. “The town intends to adopt the revised code.”
