MASSENA -- Massena's first comic book convention will also benefit the Massena Boys and Girls Club.
Upstate Comic Con, slated for Aug. 2 at the Massena VFW on East Hatfield Street, will donate 15 percent of its ticket sales to the cause. There will also be raffles with all proceeds going to the club.
The festivities start at 4 p.m. (outdoors, weather permitting) with BD Entertainment's inflatables, and Rapidz ice cream. At 5 p.m. those with a V.I.P. ticket gets to go into the venue an hour early.
At 6 p.m., doors open to the general public and the event runs until 10 p.m.
Attendees will get to see two Batman fan films, The Batman Chronicles and Joker Rising.
There will also be a panel with Brothers In Awesome Studios, a North Country-based video game company. Zac and Chuck's Untitled Podcast will cover the whole event.
I Got Game. Tournaments will host a Magic: The Gathering tournament at 6:30 p.m., which will run throughout the night. They will also offer a Pokemon Tournament, an art contest, face painting and photography by Vandal Films, for all who show up in costume.
Raffle tickets will be $1 each or five for $3. Prizes include a movie poster for The Mindbender Chronicles which is signed by cast and crew, a Joker Rising DVD and a Portal 2 poster signed by the game designers.
Event is admission is $10 or $20 for VIP.
VIP tickets include entry an hour early, 10 free raffle tickets, a hot pass moving its holder to the front of autograph lines, front row seating at every panel and a limited edition Upstate Comic Con poster.
Tickets can be purchased from Star Tech Computers at 260 East Orvis St., Massena or I Got Hame at 205 Ford St., Ogdensburg.
All tickets are cash only.
