The St. Lawrence University men's and women's alpine ski teams competed in the slalom races at UVM, which were cancelled earlier this season due to weather. The Saints took advantage of the make-up date, as three skiers earned top-15 finishes led by Graham Scott, who punched his ticket to the NCAA Championships with a fourth place showing.
"After a slow start, we are now getting some quality results, including Graham's NCAA qualifying result," said St. Lawrence head alpine ski coach Willi Steinrotter. "It is good to see some of the younger women get several good results as well."
Both the men's and women's teams finished in fifth place in the team standings, the best team finishes of the young 2014 campaign. Scott earned his third career top-5 finish with a combined time of 1:35.98 which included a top-5 first run. He was awarded 41.0 points towards the carnival, while Nick Stenicka added a 13th place finish as well. Loudon Fruth capped the scoring at 78.0 points, three out of fourth, in 38th position.
Dustin Martin (DNF) and Dylan Murtha (DNQ) rounded out the men's team's line-up on Sunday.
On the women's side, junior Allison Visconti picked up her best finish of the season in 11th place, her sixth collegiate top-15. The Ridgefield, CT native raced in 1:40.07 to earn 30.0 points, while Sophia Frankenburg (22nd) and Amie Lonza (29th) capped the team's scoring at 70.0 points. Maria Hillenbrand (31st), Hannah Kadah (DNF 2nd) and Alita Rogers (DNQ) also represented St. Lawrence in the women's slalom.
The University of Vermont won the men's race, led by individual champion Travis Dawson, while Lizzie Kistler led Dartmouth College to the women's title behind the individual victory.
The St. Lawrence alpine ski teams will have next weekend off before competing on February 7 and 8 at the 2014 Dartmouth Carnival.
