Three Parishville residents were featured on the popular TV show “Jeopardy” Friday night as SUNY Canton librarian Cori Wilhelm won the game, unseating a two-time champ.
Wilhelm will compete again on the trivia quiz show Monday, shown locally at 7 p.m. on WWNY-tv, channel 7 and WPTZ-tv, channel 5.
Friday, going into final Jeopardy, Wilhelm was leading with $10,200. That was $1,200 more than her nearest contestant.
She won the game by correctly answering “Indonesia” to the clue, “By population, it’s the largest country in the world without nuclear weapons.” Having bet $7,801, she walked away with a total of $18,001.
Then, as the credits rolled, a close-up of Wilhelm’s parents Llona and Fred Wilhelm who were sitting in the audience was displayed as the contestants stood and chatted with host Alex Trebek.
Cori’s parents were shown up close apparently because earlier in the show when the contestants chatted with Trebek, she noted her mother is a Jeopardy “fanatic.” Cori said her mother has always wanted Jeopardy shows to be recorded if she was not home to view them when they aired.
And Llona’s cell phone ring is the Jeopardy theme song, Cori noted.
Replied Trebek, “Hey Mom, thank you so much. You’ve kept us on the air for 30 years.”
