CANTON – This January, TAUNY will offer two shape note singing workshops--one on Sunday, Jan. 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the United Methodist Church on Main Street in Potsdam, and the second on Sunday, Jan. 30, from 2 to 4 p.m. in Herring-Cole Hall on the St. Lawrence University campus in Canton.
Shape note singing is a rousing American musical tradition that has roots in both the Northeast and the South. After a brief introduction to the history of this four-part singing tradition, TAUNY workshop participants will learn how to "sing the shapes" then put together a selection of songs in full harmony.
Participants are encouraged to attend one or both of the workshops. Music will be provided. The workshops are free; donations will be accepted.
