POTSDAM — Sierra Ashley (Ogdensburg/Lisbon), a member of the SUNY Potsdam softball team, has earned a spot on the Academic All-District team.
The all-district teams, selected by College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA), recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the playing field and in the classroom.
To be eligible for the nomination, athletes need to maintain at least a 3.5 GPA, be a sophomore, a starter, or significant reserve and have participated in at least 50 percent of their team's contests. Pitchers need to have at least 10 innings pitched. Student-athletes in graduate school are allowed to be nominated if they maintained an undergrad and graduate GPA of 3.5. Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot.
Ashley is a graduate student pitcher for the Bears. While pursuing a master's degree in management, she tossed 17 innings this season with five strikeouts. Ashley was named to the SUNYAC Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll in 2022. In her three seasons with Potsdam, she has 120.2 innings pitched and eight complete games.
