POTSDAM -- SUNY Potsdam distinguished professor Maria Hepel has been honored by the American Chemical Society with a National Research Award for Research at an Undergraduate Institution.
In her 32 years at SUNY Potsdam, Hepel has supervised approximately 300 student research projects and mentored many young scholars.
The award recognizes her dedication to conducting research with students in diverse fields of public concern related to human health, environmental monitoring and remediation, energy conversion and nanotechnology.
The award was presented to Hepel at during a black-tie banquet at the 253rd National Meeting of the American Chemical Society on April 4 in San Francisco.
