POTSDAM -- SUNY Potsdam's All Greek Council celebrated the academic success of recognized fraternity and sorority members recently by hosting a reception in honor of the students who made the President's or Dean's List in the Spring 2011 semester.

The students were asked to bring a faculty or staff member as their guest for the event.

Julie Dold, assistant director of campus life, stated that the reception was created to provide "an opportunity for Greek students to share their academic successes with the faculty and staff with whom they work on a daily basis.

Additionally, we wanted to have an event that supports the goals for academic improvement that All Greek Council has set."

In total, 58 students, approximately 25 percent of SUNY Potsdam's Greek Community, were on the President's or Dean's List last semester. Each individual was given an award for their academic achievement.

Kathryn Horan, All Greek Council's president and a recipient of the president's list award stated at the reception that, "while we have a ways to go [to meet our academic goals], there are already individuals in our community who are excelling academically. These are the students I commonly see living at the library, tutoring fellow students, and sitting in the front rows of classes. These individuals show that the letters they wear not only represent the values of their chapters, but also the values of the College."

The recognized Greek houses at SUNY Potsdam share the common values of friendship, scholarship, community service and leadership. As recognized houses, members of those sororities and fraternities must work hard to uphold those values and challenge themselves to reach a higher standard, to meet the expectations of the College and the community.
