MASSENA -- Lisa Furnace, a non-traditional accounting student at SUNY Canton, was awarded the 2012 AAUW St. Lawrence County Scholarship in May. In addition to a cash award, she also was given a membership in AAUW.
Furnace has a long history of community service, including as an active volunteer fire fighter and active fund-raiser for local Catholic schools.
She is also an active member in the Massena MOMs group, which provides assistance to mothers and families in the Massena community.
Her college-related volunteer service includes being a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance worker.
The mother of six, she graduated in May with her associate accounting degree from SUNY Canton and is continuing this fall for a bachelor’s in the legal studies curriculum.
