OGDENSBURG – Ogdensburg police officers will receive new protective vests and rifles thanks to a $32,069 state grant from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services.
City council accepted the grant Monday at the regular council meeting.
St. Lawrence County received a total of $75,000 from the grant, but Ogdensburg’s share of $32,069 made up nearly half.
Deputy Mayor Michael Morley asked for specifics regarding what the department would purchase with the funding.
Chief Andrew Kennedy told city council the money would be used to purchase improved protective vests that are of a higher quality than what the officers currently used. Kennedy said the funding would also provide the department with new patrol rifles.
