The St. Lawrence County Youth Bureau is searching for up to 20 youth in grades 7 through 11 to take part in a short-term community service project aimed at creating healthy outdoor spaces.
Youth Champions for Tobacco Free Outdoors Project participants will learn how to advocate for a cause, set-up social media, write and present a resolution, write a letter to the editor, call the Governor, reach out to local elected officials or State Legislators. Youth will receive training that provides leadership, civic engagement, and advocacy competencies. The project will focus on the important role that young people have in helping communities solve issues.
The sessions are scheduled for Thursday, February 17, March 10, and April 7, and will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Human Service Center, 80 SH 310, Canton. A stipend and Recognition for Service will be provided to participating youth upon completion of the program on April 7.
Parents, guardians, or family members of participants are welcome to attend the work sessions, and youth are encouraged to sign-up with friends.
Registration can be done by calling 379-9464 or sent via email to jsevick@stlawco.org. Insert Youth Champions in the subject line of your email request. Deadline to register is 4 p.m. on February 15.
