The St. Lawrence County Soil and Water Conservation District is taking orders for its 2014 tree seedling and shrub program until April 4.
Landowners can buy bare root seedlings that are one to three years old. They can be used for reforestation, windbreaks, soil erosion control and wildlife habitat improvement. Prices start at $1 and go up to $8.50 each, depending on the species ordered. Minimum order is 10 of one species, unless otherwise stated. Prices go down with bigger orders.
There are over 31 species of plants available including evergreens, hardwoods, fruit trees, nut trees and ground covers. Also available are species for songbirds or butterflies, and many other types of planting supplies.
Proceeds will benefit conservation projects in the county. Tree delivery date is expected to be April 25. For an order form or more information, contact the Soil and Water Conservation District office at 1942 Old DeKalb Road, Canton, NY 13617 or call the office at 386-3582. It is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Information is also be available at www.slcswcd.org.
