CANTON — The St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office has received information regarding a scam involving Medicare information.

Individuals in the area have been receiving phone calls that appear to be coming from a doctor’s office, the sheriff’s office said. The caller then asks for medical information.

The sheriff’s office recommends that local residents never provide personal information over the phone unless you know the caller.

If there is doubt as to the validity of a phone call, hang up and call your healthcare provider directly.
